Safety Precautions:

Although face-to-face visits are increasing, our walk-in clinics will remain closed to in-person visits at this time. Only patients with a confirmed, scheduled appointment should present to the facility, unless they are experiencing an urgent medical issue. If you’re a Veteran patient who wishes to be seen, please call 888-598-7793 to make an appointment beforehand. Urgent medical and mental health care remains open and available.

Veterans are also encouraged to present to the facility no earlier than 30 minutes before their scheduled appointment to assist in maintaining physical distancing.

Visitor restrictions remain in place. Only Veterans with scheduled appointments will be permitted inside the facility, unless a caregiver is required.

All of our five community-based VA outpatient clinics are open for limited in-person appointments and urgent referred patient services (no walk-ins).

COVID Vaccinations:

The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital is now offering COVID-19 vaccine appointments to all enrolled and health care eligible Veterans. Vaccine clinics are available at the main hospital and at our community-based outpatient clinics in Baraboo, Beaver Dam, and Janesville, WI and in Rockford and Freeport, IL. Veterans are encouraged to call 608-280-2160 to schedule an appointment through our Vaccine Scheduling Team.

Moving Forward:

The Madison VA and clinics are a lead site implementing a phased approach to expanding health care services while ensuring a safe environment. These procedures include some gastroenterology, cardiology, orthopedic and operating room procedures and preparing related lab, imaging and specialty clinics for that increase in procedure volume. As part of our Moving Forward Plan, we will be opening up additional specialty services based on clinical need.

We continue to maximize personalized virtual care options like in-home telehealth (VA Video Connect) and telephone appointments to promote physical distancing and provide increased access to care regardless of geographic location.

As we welcome Veterans back, safety measures will include, but are not limited to, physical distancing, environmental cleaning recommendations outlined by the CDC, face coverings for all, and staff and Veteran screening for signs of COVID-19 infection.

Situation Update - William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this unprecedented time. The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital has taken many steps to protect and care for our Veterans and staff throughout the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic. This included postponing most non-urgent care and services, implementing screening procedures, and restricting visitors.

VA is now Moving Forward with expanding select services at facilities across the country. The Madison VA is a lead site and is implementing a phased approach to expanding health care services while ensuring a safe environment.

As one of the pilot sites, the Madison VA will begin marginally increasing specific procedures at the hospital starting May 20th. These procedures include some gastroenterology, cardiology, orthopedic and operating room procedures and preparing related lab, imaging and specialty clinics for that increase in procedure volume. As part of our Moving Forward Plan, we will be opening up additional specialty services based on clinical need.

Further, the Madison VA will be piloting a phased increase of face to face visits at our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). This will result in a focused and incremental increase in procedures and face to face visits. All of our five community-based VA outpatient clinics are open for limited in-person appointments and urgent referred patient services (no walk-ins).

We will continue to maximize personalized virtual care options like in-home telehealth (VA Video Connect) and telephone appointments to promote physical distancing and provide increased access to care regardless of geographic location.

As we welcome Veterans back, we will continue safety measures including, but not limited to, physical distancing, environmental cleaning recommendations outlined by the CDC, face coverings for all, and staff and Veteran screening for signs of COVID-19 infection. Additionally, only Veterans with scheduled appointments will be permitted inside the facility, unless a caregiver is required. *Safe* care is our mission and our continuing commitment to Veterans and staff.
