October is national Physical Therapy Month.  Did you know the Madison VA Physical Therapy Department performed over 11,000 outpatient PT treatments this past year?

The Madison VA PT Department staff consists of 12 therapists with over 190 years of combined experience that provide care for Veterans both in the acute care hospital wards and in the outpatient clinic.  Our expert therapists treat Veterans with a wide variety of muscle, joint, neurologic, heart, lung, and vascular problems amongst other diagnoses.

Specialty outpatient services Include:

  • Heart and Lung Transplant Rehab
  • Vestibular/Dizziness Evaluations
  • Lymphedema Management
  • Amputee Care
  • Group Classes for Chronic Back Pain
  • Care and Orthotic Modification for the Diabetic Foot
  • Falls Assessment Clinic

Renovations Underway

Recently, a complete renovation of the Physical and Occupational Therapy Department began that will further enhance the environment of care for Veterans and staff.  The final product of this project will provide 4,000 square feet of treatment space.  Veterans will notice a welcoming and open floor plan.

Specific features will include:

  • An overhead mechanical lift system that will assist with patient transfers and supported walking,
  • Seven private treatment rooms, and
  • A new reception area

Construction is scheduled to be completed Fall 2012.  While existing treatment areas undergo renovation, PM&R staff will continue to provide Veterans with uninterrupted, high quality PT service and care.

Accessing PT Services

If you are interested in receiving physical therapy services, please make an appointment with your primary care or specialty provider for an evaluation.  If it is decided that PT is indicated for you, your provider will write a consult to the Physical Therapy Department on your behalf.
