Coming home to the civilian world is a complicated journey that can last years. It involves finding ways to "fit in" the civilian world again, reconnecting with loved ones, and working the story of deployment into the large fabric of one's life.

A group of newly returned veterans who have successfully navigated the homecoming journey themselves have come together, with support of VA staff, to serve as mentors and guides for other veterans coming home. Having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and/or Operation New Dawn (OND), they are working to reach out to other OEF/OIF/OND veterans to offer connection and support in the way that only someone else "who's been there" can.

The dedication of these Veterans, and their commitment to "pay forward" for other Veterans speaks to a bright and strong future for this new and growing program.

If you are an OEF, OIF or OND veteran and you would like to become a part of the New Vet Network, please call (608)280-7285 or email  NewVetNetwork@va.gov
