MOVE! is a national weight management program designed to help veterans lose weight, keep it off, and improve their health.  The MOVE! program is divided into different parts to meet veterans’ individual needs.  MOVE! offers individual appointments, weekly group classes, monthly group classes, and even a program at home.

Individual appointments with a Registered Dietitian may be provided in person, by telephone or via Tele-health at the CBOC.  During these personalized appointments, veterans will discuss their weight management goals, will be provided with education, and with recommendations tailored just for them.  The assigned VA healthcare team member will also provide regular follow-up and support to track progress and help meet veteran's weight management goals.

Support groups can offer enormous benefits in managing weight.  MOVE! provides multiple group classes to meet veterans needs.  Veterans can get involved in weekly group classes, monthly group classes and women only group classes.  These classes are taught in-person and via Tele-health at the CBOC.  Some of the topics discussed include: benefits of weight loss, benefits of regular physical activity, medications and over the counter prescription effects on weight management, time management strategies for weight loss,  serving sizes/portion control, restaurant eating, self-image, and thoughts and emotions related to weight management. Classes and programs are taught by a dietitian, doctor, nurse practitioner, physical therapist, pharmacist, occupational therapist, or a social worker.

To help keep veterans motivated between appointments they can get involved with our home MOVE! program.  This is a 90-day commitment and a landline telephone is required for participation in this program.  Veterans are provided with a health buddy and a scale to monitor their progress.  A registered nurse will track progress and provide regular follow-up and support to help meet weight management goals.

If veterans are interested in participating in the MOVE! program they can stop by the Patient Education Center (Room: A1005) Monday-Thursday at 11am or call to register.  Our number is:  (608) 256-1901 x-11420 or toll-free at (888) 478-8321 x-11420.
