Madison, WI — Eligible Veterans with active Cancer who are not yet enrolled in the VA can now use the “Fast Track to VA Cancer Care” initiative, a direct scheduling process for Oncology appointments at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital.

With a phone call to 1-833-309-1349, Veterans with active cancer can find out if they qualify for VA health care benefits and, after enrolling, make an appointment to see a cancer specialist.

“The Fast Track to Cancer Care initiative is a fantastic example of how we are streamlining our procedures to provide ready access to care when our veterans need it most,” said John Rohrer, Madison VA Director.

The Madison VA is implementing this effort as part of a national initiative.

Eligible Veterans will be able directly schedule appointments in specialty care clinics without needing a referral from a Primary Care Provider (PCP). This effort makes scheduling specialty care services faster and easier for Veterans, while improving availability for primary care services.

“Veterans with cancer face many challenges,” said Doctor Alan Bridges, Chief of Medicine at the Madison VA. “It is our goal to get them care as soon as possible.”

Veterans who call 1-833-309-1349 will connect to a centralized VA Eligibility Office and will be asked to provide information listed in the VA form 10-10 EZ to determine eligibility and apply for enrollment in the VA Health Care system to obtain services.

The 10-10 EZ can be found here: https://www.va.gov/vaforms/medical/pdf/1010EZ-fillable.pdf
